Celebrating Sonam Lhosar: A Festival of Renewal, Culture, and Togetherness

Sonam Lhosar is one of the most vibrant and culturally rich festivals celebrated by the Tamang community, marking the beginning of the Tamang New Year. Falling in the month of Magh (January/February) according to the Nepali calendar, this festival is a time for joy, reflection, and cultural pride. Here’s a glimpse into the essence of Sonam Lhosar and why it holds a special place in the hearts of the Tamang people.

One of the most striking aspects of Sonam Lhosar is the traditional attire worn by the Tamang people. Men and women dress in their finest Tamang cultural dresses, adorned with intricate jewelry and accessories. The women wear tingey  and bakhu while men wear thetung tshirts.
