Limbu Language

The Limbu language is a Sino-Tibetan language spoken by the Limbu people of Nepal and Northeastern India, with expatriate communities in Bhutan also preserving its use. It is one of Nepal’s recognized indigenous languages and holds deep cultural and historical significance.

Features of the Limbu Language

  • Part of the Sino-Tibetan language family, closely related to Kiranti languages.
  • Primarily spoken in eastern Nepal, Sikkim, and Darjeeling in India.
  • Written in the Sirijanga script, developed to preserve Limbu literature and traditions.
